More Meaningful Magic !!!

So, the first meaningful gift I received this Christmas was from my dad. (Although the treasures my kids picked out for me at the dollar store take the cake!!) How interesting that the other meaningful gift I received came from my mom. Well, it kind of came from my mom. And it wasn't really for me--it was for Logan.
We opened up a gift bag that had this blue and tan blanket in it. There were no names on it. I thought there was a mix-up. I recognized the blanket. It was a "TV blanket" that my mom had made. She made dozens of them. Most of my siblings, their spouses, and the grandchildren have them. That is, all grandchildren who were born before my mom passed away in April 2001. When I opened the gift, I kept going over everyone's blankets in my mind to figure out who had this fabric. I couldn't make sense of it.
Then Christmas day when I talked to Darin's mom--she filled me in. Years ago, Marilyn, Darin's mom, had my mom sew these TV blankets for all her children--Darin's siblings. They were for gifts one Christmas. Darin's little brother, Fodie and his wife Melissa, had our names for Christmas this year. Fodie gave his blanket to Logan. Logan loves dogs--the blanket has dogs. But the real gift is that Fodie thought it might be meaningful to us that Logan have something sewn by his Granny Winnie. His Grandma who passed away two years before Logan was born.
THANK YOU Fode and Melissa!!! That was so thoughtful and takes the cake for the best gift this year in our family. A decade ago, my mom made me a pink and white checked little quilt to replace "Old Yeller". "Old Yeller" is my baby blanket that I was still using several years into our marriage. It was getting hammered and I thought I'd better retire it to the cedar chest. So my mom made a replacement for me. I think she and I both knew I would really save it for a future daughter. So now Ellie has a little quilt on her bed sewn by Granny Winnie. I never dreamed Logan would have one as well!!! He has slept with it the two nights that he has had it--and I'm sure he will for years to come!! A real treasure!! Thanks Mom and Fodie!! We love you!!
