Temple Square

Yesterday we spent the day together in Salt Lake. First we took the kids to Tucano's for lunch. It's a Brazillion place -- the ones where the bring the different meats and veggies around to your tables. We told the kids about how Dad ate like that on his mission in Brazil. Logan loved every bit of it and ate LOTS!! Ellie did surprisingly well and filled up on bananas, rolls, and cottage cheese. After doing a little shopping, we boarded the "train" to ride the few blocks to temple square. We were there before it was dark, and we counted down the minutes til the lighting of the lights at 5:30.

We watched part of the outdoor nativity. Took pictures at the reflecting pool. Went to the tenth floor of the JSMB to look out at temple square. Walked up the ramp to see the Chistus. (And so Logan could hear his own voice echo throughout the presentation.) In the family History area they have a new little play place for kids. Logan was a magnet to the little doghouse, and and Elllie baked up a batch of corn muffins on the old-fashioned stove. We checked out a few of the displays in the visitors centers. Ellie kept asking if Laman and Lemuel killed Nephi. And she was quite concerned at the appearance of the beat-up man that the "Good Samaritan" was helping. It looked pretty life-like.

Below are some shots of waiting (and freezing) at the Trax station, having hot fudge cake across the street at JB's, and a cool picture I took of the sunset through the trees at temple square.

Posted by PicasaOn the way home, I asked the kids what their favorite part of the day was--eating at Tucano's, riding the train, seeing the lights go on, eating hot fudge cake, going to the 10th floor to look down on salt Lake City---etc. So many things to choose from--what did they like best. I actually listed these things out loud for them. But their favorite part of the day was none of the above!!! They LOVED that morning when they went with Dad on their first rabbit hunt!!!!!!!!! They thought it was SO great!!! I am doing all I can to hold my tongue--because Darin is in Dad-heaven!! But seriously!!! I don't love it that my babies think it's great to shoot a bunny!!! I think Ellie may have even liked it more than Logan. Don't they know those are REAL "LITTLE ANGELS" !!!!!????? I haven't mentioned that to them yet--but it's coming!!!
The little rednecks!!

Temple Square is also one of my favorite places ever. I LOVE that you took the kids there and made some great memories for them. You seriously deserve an A+ in mommy-ing!

And don't worry about the bunny-killing excitement. It will wear off and they will come to their senses!

Temple Square is the best! I've never been there to see the lights turn on though. I bet that was cool. Too funny about the rabbit hunt! What's a mom to do?!
