Just a "regular" weekend at home.

I want to capture some memories from this past weekend before I forget them entirely. We had another rare--stay home weekend. I LOVE it when we are just HOME!!! We hit a few yard sales together as a family Saturday morning. I scored a Pottery Barn bedspread, sheets and pillow sham for Ellie and throw pillows, and a bunch of clothes for her for next Fall. And... a pair of cool pink leather Justin cowboy boots that she has hardly taken off since!! They are a bit too big, which makes them all the more endearing!! Love them!!
Saturday afternoon the kids had a birthday party to go to. So Darin and I decided to take advantage of the time together without them and go for a hike. We went up on the foothills and and hiked UP. At first I was ticked at how UP it was!!! But it leveled out to a nice incline pretty quick. It is SO beautiful up there---I had no idea we lived so close to such great hikes. Sad to admit--but true. So, it was definitely an overcast, rainy day, and clouds were looming--but we thought we'd be OK. Nope--when we were at our highest point, it started to POUR!!! We took a shortcut down the side of a few hills to get back to the car. But there was no escaping the rain. It was coming down like crazy. We were absolutely soaked. I was squeezing the water from my sweatshirt as we slid down the muddy hills. But it was really fun, and even a little romantic to be out in the rain like that. Must do it again!!! Thanks to Jon and Lauren D. for having the kids over for the birthday party!!! I know I looked just lovely when we came to pick them up!!!
Saturday evening we decided on the spur-of-the-moment (not my style), to take the kids to the new movie "Up". It was a really cute show. Then we headed for dinner at Wingers. We should have called it good after the movie---not great food and an over-stimulated Logan boy--but still a fun night out with the kids.
Sunday was Father's Day. The kids and I got up early and let Darin sleep in. We made him a big breakfast of waffles, eggs, bacon, and hash browns. Normal for some folks--I know. But for us that is a HUGE deal!! The kids gave him little gifts they helped pick out--water bottles, work out shirts, a tie, golf balls, etc. The regular Father's Day stuff. We also gave him a cool little wooden chest with deer on it. I think it's an ammo box or something.
Sunday afternoon we loaded the bikes in the van and went to the Jordan River Trail for a bike ride. We had a few glitches with locations and meeting spots. But over-all it was a really cool place to go riding with the kids. I wish we had a bike trail near our home like that.
Logan and Ellie are so lucky to have such a good Dad. He is so aware of their personalities and what they need emotionally. He loves to talk with me about them. He loves to play with them and take them on adventures. He has just started reading them chapter books at night, and is always the one who reads them the scripture stories. He takes them golfing and fishing, hiking and bowling. He is a fabulous Dad and I am so lucky to have that in a husband. Happy Fathers Day Darin!! (Yesterday!!)
Today was our turn to host our "Summer Story Club". We read and did a couple of projects about "Little Red Riding Hood". Logan and Ellie were the most excited about the snack--little rice crispy treat "baskets" with goodies inside. And we were excited to have Ellie's school teacher, Amy Kanz, come and help us.
Just regular life going at a regular speed--WAY too fast!!! Gotta enjoy the little things and the regular moments.

Hiking in the rain, your amazing! So we are going to Bear Lake in July. Any tips? I went once when I was little so I have no idea what to expect or to bring.
