We made it to age 7 before our first cast!!

Yep, Logan turned seven yesterday, and today he has a new bright blue cast on his foot. (And half his leg!!) A couple of weeks ago Logan was really hobbling around. We never know exactly how or when he hurts himself, because he rarely tells us. After a week or so of his off and on "hobbling", I thought we'd better get him checked out. We took him to the podiatrists. Had X-rays. Sure enough, a fracture along the outer bone of his right foot. The doctor asked me very quickly, "does he have a high tolerance for pain?" Um...YES!!! This is the boy who had multiple horrible ear infections as a baby and NEVER cried. The boy who had third degree burns and skins grafts with nearly no complaining for months, as a toddler. The boy who even now has BIG bruises all over his arms and legs, and he never even knows he has them!! Yep--high level of tolerance for pain!!
So, the doctor gives us a boot/brace thing that we are able to take off at night. But if it comes off at all--I should have known it would come off more than at night!! First day home from school it was ripped right off. Next day he was roller-skating without it. Two days ago he stepped right in a big pile of doggy poop, and the thing went straight to the trash!!
Since we knew we would be heading to a hotel with a pool for his birthday, we decided to not worry about it for a couple of days. He played like crazy at the hotel, and went up and down the tube slide set of stairs a hundred times. By today he was hobbling again and walking on his tippy-toes to help the pain. But when we ask him if it hurts--we get a big fat NO!!!
Back to the doctor. He said it would not heal on it's own unless Logan was pretty much immobile for several weeks. Absolutely NOT possible!! So to force it to heal, and to prevent the fracture from becoming worse---we now have a cast!! Should be interesting. Can't get it wet. And I am sure it will be filthy in a day or two. Always an adventure!!
