Winter Wonderland New Years Day!

Happy New Year! For our last day of the holiday break, we decided to make it a family day and head out for some very chilly winter fun! First stop, The Gallivan Center downtown Salt Lake to try the outdoor ice-skating rink. Ellie had been asking to do this for several weeks. We all ended up having a really fun time, and will definitely go back again this season. Next time we want to go at night to skate with all the twinkly lights on.

Logan was a real trooper. He went from this...holding on the railing around and around the rink.

To this...no holding on and keeping up with the rest of us. He is one determined soul! When we tucked him in bed last night, he showed us the spots on both legs that had rubbed raw from the skates. We had no idea...he never told us they were hurting his legs!! Way to stick with it, Buddy!!

Ellie started slow and picked up speed over time. She liked trying out skating on one foot, turns and spins, and arm movements. Of course both kids now want to take ice-skating lessons!!

I had a fun time myself, even though it has been years since I've been on skates. Kind of like riding a bike I guess. Logan kept asking why Darin and I knew how to skate so good. (We don't skate very well, but I guess all those years on Pelican pond paid off!!)

After a lunch break at Paradise Cafe and Bakery, we headed up the canyon towards Park City. There is a golf course half way up the canyon, that has a great sledding hill. Darin has always wanted to try it out with the kids, and today was the day. The very cold day.

It was a popular spot with a beautiful view.

Getting started was a bit tricky, cause it was so sloped and slippery.

And the trek back up each time was not short.

But the kids had a great time flying down over and over again.

On the way home we stopped at Target top get a new vacuum and to get Logan some pants for school that do not involve buttons, zippers, or bulky pockets. We got him five new pairs of sport pants for school! We really have had such a GREAT Christmas break this year. Today it was back to school and work for all of us. Happy New Year!!
