I very rarely (never) post pictures of my students on my blog. But I just had to share a few of these photos from our class Valentine's Day 1950's Sock Hop party. I had nothing to do with it. I have some extremely incredible, supportive parents this year. In every way. They are on top of academics with the kids, homework, etc. And they help me in class hours and hours each week. And they happen to help our room mom throw some serious holiday parties! This one pretty much takes the cake. We were the talk of the school, which was of course, so fun for the kids and for me.

One over-the-top mommy (my kind of gal), sewed these adorable poodle skirts for all the girls. Thirteen poodle skirts!! Who does that?? The girls received them the day before the party and they all came on Valentine's Day with high pony tails and ribbons, neck scarves, and a few pairs of adorable shoes. It was pretty much just joyful to see the girls swishing their skirts around together.

These little dudes all followed through with their attire as well. Rolled jeans and white T-shirts, and few pairs of sunglasses, jean jackets, and bomber jackets.
The moms who worked all this magic had the MOST fun things planned! This photo backdrop with props was a hit! The kids were so animated and into it. Other activities included an old-fashioned ice-cream counter, yo-yos, bowling, hula hoops, the limbo, and balloon paddling.
And then....there was the dancing!!! One of the most fun things I've seen in a long time! They were so into it! Spinning and twisting and tweeting and mashed potato-ing. Some kids were going to town like nobody was watching, and it was super cute when they partnered up. The two in the bottom right hand pic are twins, and they knew some serious moves! It. Was. Awesome!

The night before, I decided I'd better try to dress the part. I didn't have much luck finding the right thing at the eleventh hour. But the DI did have a red shirt with black polka-dots. Amy brought me the scarf that day, and I cut out and hot glued the poodle to my capris ten minutes before students arrived. The high pony tails with ribbons were super fun. The high heels...not so much. I think I should have skipped the "Grease, Pink Ladies" look and gone with the bobby socks and sneakers.

Pretty sure there will never be another school class party quite like this one. I'm so glad I was the teacher the year these moms went the 100th extra mile for their kinder-babies!
