Xenia

For those of you who don't know who this is.....meet the best ding-darn-dang principal that I have ever known! Xenia Young. I have been lamenting and mourning her retirement since it became a reality a couple of months ago. I've had a gut feeling all year that this would be her last.....even mentioned it to my teaching team early in the year. Boo-hoo!

She was nominated (by many teachers, other administrators, and community parents) and selected as the Best Administrator of the Year in the district. Darn tootin!! And it's about time the Transcript got around to doing an article about her...now that school it out! Better late than never. And seriously, Xenia tried to escape without fanfare, little stinker! So what does she get? The front page! Yes!!

She is amazing at what she does. My family has been so blessed to have her as the principal of our school for these past six years. She started when Logan was in the school preschool. And the past two years I have also known her as my "boss" since I teach kindergarten at the school. I cannot say enough about how highly I think of this woman. I know there are so many others who feel the same way. It was entertaining (but sad) to see peoples faces literally drop when they found out she was leaving. JD's response was the best when I told her and she said, "Oh NO" in kind of slow motion and with much drama, as if something terrible had happened. So, so many sad parents in the community. Parents who really knew what we had in Xenia.....what our kids had. I wrote a letter to the district about her, I wrote a poem about her for a farewell party, and I've written notes to her expressing my appreciation. So I won't rewrite here, the dozens of ways she is exceptional at what she does and who she is. Those who truly know her, already know. And those who have never met her, or did not realize what we had in her, you missed out.

Mrs. Young at Logan and Ellie's kindergarten graduation. I REALLY just needed her to stay for two more years until my own kids were done with elementary school.

Random tidbit: This past year I kept looking at these shoes online. They are Sanitas...best brand ever. Well, these shiny black and yellow babies are actually called, "Xenia Professionals". Too funny! Because if there is anything that Xenia is...it's professional! And....she loves shoes! Of course hers are always much more stylish and classy than my style of chunky clogs!

Amy G. and I stopped by the school last week to get a few more minutes with her. She is officially done now. Last day of June. Retired! House sold, boxes packed, and headed to live near her kids, three miles from the beach, with her surfing husband! She deserves it!!

We love you Mrs. Xenia Young!!

what?! This is complete craziness! I guess our family won't be the only ones missing Mrs. Young next year! (Truly, it was hard to move away from such a great principal.) I'd love to read the transcript article sometime--I'm so glad she won the award, she SO deserved it. We LOVE Mrs. Young!
