FHE Service Night....huh??

So, tonight we thought we'd try to once again instill in our lovely children the importance of serving others, and recognizing how much we are blessed to have what we have. I have NO idea if we were successful. I'm just glad it's over!!
**Thought we'd try starting out our FHE discussion at the dinner table. Only, our kids don't STAY at the dinner table!! There is the standing on the chair to reach a Christmas ornament. Then there is the getting up and getting a word game to play at the table during dinner....during our FHE discussion!!! And we can't forget the need to get up and twirl around the room between bites. But they must have been listening a little bit, because they reached the conclusion that other families who have no food will starve and die!! So we'd better help them!!
**At the kids school they are having a "Dimes for Diapers" service project. So first on the docket was to have the kids choose out some baby wipes to put in their backpacks to bring to school tomorrow. The wipes happen to be near our games. Several games crashed to the floor as the kids wrestled to be the first to find the wipes.
**Next, time to fill boxes and baskets with food and household items to donate to families in need. I stood in the pantry and storage room doors and handed the kids items to put in the boxes. They were racing the entire time and shoving the heck out of each other to be the next one to be handed an item. "Hey, move, I was here first!" "That's my box of cereal to put in the basket." "Get out of my way!!" Push, push, shove, run, race, poke.
**And as we are getting the dental health items...one child spies a toothbrush that they MUST have!! Small mom/child altercation on toothbrush issue.
**Then there is the child who is taking an eternity to get the PJ's on, and refuses to buckle the seat belt in the car....because this child did not eat ones dinner--therefore did not get the FHE treat. (Note: Baths, PJ's etc. were done before the delivery of the donation.)
**Delivery of the goods. So we take two full boxes and two full baskets to a RS Presidents home in another ward. We have never been to this home, nor met the woman. When she answers the door she is rocking a baby in her arms and trying to whisper. Logan immediately spots a huge Love Sac. (Giant bean bag.) He drops his basket, runs to the Love Sac and dives on!!! Instantly something of a home-decor' nature, falls from the wall and hits the floor behind the Love Sac. We apologize and exit as quickly as possible!!!
**On the ride home, one child asks, already knowing the answer will be NO, "Can we stop at Mavrick and get a treat??" When said child actually hears the "NO", there is a bit of fussing.
**Back at home after saying "BRUSH YOUR TEETH" umpteen times, the sweet children are snuggled down into their beds!!! At last!!!

Sure do love those meaningful FHE's!!!!

Yes, and to think you still haven't hit those teen years yet, such as I have! :)
