Fantastic "new" fridge!!!

So...today we got a "new" fridge!! Well, new to us anyways. Dave and Em, (Darin's brother) recently moved in to a new home and no longer need this beauty!! We did offer them a small token of our appreciation, but mostly--they GAVE it to us!!! THANKS GUYS!!! Now for those who don't know---the fridge that left our kitchen today was BLACK, had no handles, and a broken ice-maker. (Read full black fridge story at the end of this post.)Our kitchen feels so bright and open with that black one gone and this shiny white one in it's place!! And it matches the stove and dishwasher!!! Yippee!!

Working water dispenser AND ice-maker!!!! No more making ice-cubes with trays!!! The old fridge did have a working ice-maker when we got it. But I think I broke it stuffing too much food in the freezer. At least that's what Darin says!!

I NEVER clean my fridge!! So today is a monumental occasion--I cleaned TWO fridges in one day!!! Had to take a picture while it was all neat and tidy, with no jam smears. Won't last long!!

Below you will see the price we paid for the shiny "new" fridge. A moderate ding to the rounded corner of the kitchen wall. Bummer!! Time to find that paint in the garage that almost matches!!! Sam, Darin's dad, came all the way down from Logan with his truck to get the fridge, deliver it to our house, and take the old one away. He was a HUGE help!! THANK YOU SAM!!! We sure do appreciate it!!

Posted by PicasaSo, for our little family history, I must record the story of the black beast of a fridge!! A few years ago, Grandma Tanner came to live with Darin's parents. So all her big belongings were being given away, stored, etc. It just so happened that our own fridge was giving out---broken ice-maker, weird noises, freezing the veggies, etc. And it was one of the freezer-on-top oldies. (Side note: We bought that one in 1999, when we moved to California. Not only do all the apartments in California have no ceiling lights in the main living areas, they have no fridge!! How weird is that!! You rent an apartment and you have to go buy a fridge!! And lots of lamps!!)
So, anyways.....the black fridge was offered to us. We gladly accepted, having never seen the thing. Darin's brother brought it down to us in his truck. It was soooooo ugly!!! I could hardly stand it!! It was slick black plastic. Not magnetic. Kind of like the kind on the front of some dishwashers. And grandma loves pictures and had taped things to it for years, since it was not magnetic. So there were tape marks everywhere--not to be washed off. The handles were silver metal from the top to the floor, and it had metal edging around the entire fridge. I WISH I had taken a picture. I immediately started researching magnetic fridge coverings--we HAD to fix this thing!! One day I had Darin take all the metal casing and handles off, just so we could see what we would need to replace the shiny plastic. And GUESS WHAT!!!! That lovely shiny plastic had been an upgrade!!! Underneath was a brand new, regular magnetic, orange-peelish black fridge!!! I was sooooo excited!!! We left the handles off and have been reaching to the top of the fridge to open it for years. It actually was a great feature for the year or so til the kids figured out how to open it from the very bottom. All this evening I keep reaching to the top of the "new" fridge, and forgetting to actually use the door handles!! The black beauty (or beast) was a great fridge while we had it. It REALLY was!! So thank you Marilyn and Grandma!!!

Nice fridge! In the past few years I've only cleaned my oven twice. That's because I keep forgetting it has an self-cleaning option and I mentally dread having to get out the Easy OFF and fumigate the house. Yes, self cleans means just that. Turn it on. Wait. Wipe for 5 about 10 seconds. Moral of story...hope your freezer is self-cleaning. Likely no need to chip away at any ice!
