End of school Field Day!!

OK, field day was never this FUN when I was a kid. And in all the years I taught school I never saw an end-of-the-year-field-day like this. Is this how they do it everywhere now? Our kids are so spoiled!!!
It is so fun to live in a small community!! The fire station shows up blaring their sirens, with four vehicles. They are here to put on a hot dog BBQ for the entire school. This is not normal. This is so cool!! What a fun tradition they have at our school.

Field Day events included snow cones, cotton candy, ice-cream bars, huge blow-up slide, two bounce houses, huge blow-up maze, blow-up soccer challenge, blow-up water slide, dunking machine, and more!!! We did have some regular classic activities like the tug-o-war, sack race, sidewalk chalk, sponge race and frisbee toss.
The kids wore swimming suits to school and they loved getting super WET!!! Logan and Ellie both braved being dunked in the dunking machine, which was so FUN to watch.
I love it that I am involved enough to get to be a part of all this fun stuff with Logan and Ellie. It was so great to see all of the parent volunteers. Many came with babies in strollers and toddlers running around, just to be able to come help. Love this community!!
I somehow got roped into helping plan this event at the last minute. So at the end of the day right now--I am a bit tired out!! I pretty much ran around the school all day long--8 hours!! For those of you not from our area wondering how we pay for this event in this time of budget crisis---it is the PTA!!!! Which really means, the parents partially pay for it. As a teacher I never knew much about the PTA--it hardly existed where I taught school. But being involved in the PTA this year I have been amazed at all they do. This year many of our assemblies were arranged and paid for by the PTA. All of our field trips and transportation to them were paid for by the PTA. Events like this field day were paid for by the PTA. The PTA sponsors the fluoride program. They present the school with a gift every year. This year is was a new swing set--next year new soccer goalies. The host a thank-you luncheon for the teachers once a month. It really has been an eye-opener to me to see all that the PTA does!!! Three cheers for anyone who helps with their local PTA. And for those who don't---get movin'!!!!!
