Can I Garden??

I CAN garden!! I am super excited about the produce that our garden produced this year!! It's pretty much our first official garden ever. Darin built garden boxes for me last fall. And I planted seeds this spring. Thanks to my friend, Marilee, for most of the seeds that I tried out this year. We did have lettuce, and spinach, which I let grow way too long, so we never used it. We tried peas--no luck. And we got a handful of green beans. I guess I can't actually take credit for "gardening". Darin was the one who watered most of the time. I pretty much went out to check on things every couple of weeks, and let the place get completely overrun by itself. Who know how many vines these things produce!! None of the pumpkins actually grew inside the box I planted them in. One pumpkin was in the middle of the tomatoes in the next box over. And speaking of tomatoes...they are everywhere!! I can't walk around the garden boxes without squashing tomatoes with every step.

Here are some of our goods before and after being harvested. (picked)

There are plenty more zucchini, yellow squash and tomatoes to come. This is the second time I've pulled onions...only got a few of those. And don't ask me what happened to the carrots. They are fat and short and growing out of each other.

This is our total pumpkin crop. Five pumpkins to be exact. Two tiny ones, one medium, and two big ones that will definitely be jack-o-lanterns. My entire childhood I carved jack-o-lanterns from pumpkins we grew. (we=my dad) This will be the first year my kids will do the same!

So, the question still remains. Can I garden?? Well, if putting a seed in the ground, and picking a pumpkin several months later is gardening...I guess I CAN.

Wow I'm jealous! My garden didn't do so well. We had a few zucchini and small cherry tomatoes. Our big tomatoes got green but never went red. We tried watermelon and got one pretty decent size but then one side got moldy. We still have 2 cantaloupe so well see if they turn out. Our summer was really cold and we never got much sun. I was bummed because this area produces all kinds of stuff.
