Everyone, myself included, is talking about how summer is going too fast and that we can't believe school starts in a few short weeks. Time to think about who the kids teachers are (we are so pleased with who they got), new backpacks, school clothes, etc. Today I managed to get Ellie to try on clothes to figure out what she needs for school. Logan will take much more coaxing, especially since I am planning on this being the year he finally wears jeans to school!! I have a bunch of pairs for him--he has no idea--he'll freak out for sure!!
But...even though it is right around the corner, let's savor what we have left of summer!! We had a bit of time today that was the kind of time I love. My kids. Me. No friends. Ellie played playdough. We all made mac 'n' cheese together--which means ten minutes of the kids complete attention while they both sit on the counter by the stove. I know, ten minutes is not much--but it's all MINE!!!
Logan spent a little time on the computer. I know, screen time is not the best use of time. But still--no friends, which I love. (And those of you with kids who play here, you KNOW I do not mean your kids. It's that other kid that we still haven't figured out how to deal with. I am loving LG's solution...but it is not going over well in our house.)
We had another short storm today...which ended in an awesome rainbow. The kids had dental check-ups and cleanings and....NO CAVITIES!!! Yeah!! I thought about puting away these patriotic decorations around the house. But somehow I feel like that means I am giving in to summer ending. We haven't even read most of the books in my 4th of July book collection. They just sit in a nice pile, making it look like we're this family who reads all these fun holiday books together. Uhm...nope. My kids haven't even picked them up. At all. At least I can't recall a time they looked at any of them. But...they do look festive and patriotic all in a nice stack, don't you think?
I have actually felt awful today. Have needed much ibuprofen, which has given me a horrible blistery rash. But no good alternative. So, I spent a little time reading this.....
I love this book. I want to live in it. It cheers me up!! And....some e-mails cheer me up. I was having an e-mail conversation with two of my Jones sisters-in-law, talking about all this "are-you-ready-for-back-to-school" stuff. And this woman I SO LOVE, this mother of SIX, wrote....."Oh, and, maybe with the exception of Morgan - I have no conflicting feelings about school starting. At all." I laughed right out loud at the "At all." part. Way to keep it real!!!
