Oregon Coast Vacation: Depoe Bay.

The address of our beach rental is in Depoe Bay. The little town and harbor were a couple of miles from us. Depoe Bay harbor holds the world record for being the smallest harbor in the world!! Who knew?! It is amazing that boats can get in and out even at low tide, with such a small opening. The bridge spans the harbor entrance.

View from the waterfront, right along all the quaint little seaside shops.

Darin's favorite eatery of the whole trip....The Chowder Bowl in Depoe Bay. He had halibut. I had chowder. Logan insisted on a burger from the adult menu. And Ellie had her vacation eating out staple food...a corn dog!! Silly girl. We grabbed a bag of freshly popped carmel corn on the corner.

We took a boat ride whale watching tour. (Read about the whales in another post.)

I love the red bouy things that rock in the waves and ding the bell over and over. There are always seals or sea lions hanging out there. See them? The boat rocked pretty good. Ellie was a little nervous that the boat would tip over and we'd sink. I loved it....the waves and the boat rocking and the sights and the smells. Until I instantly got super seasick. It just hit me and I was green! Luckily it was close to the end of the trip. It's hard to tell from the pictures how narrow this little harbor entrance really is. Just wide enough for one boat.

One morning we woke up super early to get Darin and Logan off on a fishing excursion. We were super excited to have fresh cod tacos and crab that night for dinner. They got to throw in crab traps before they fished. It was raining hard that early morning, but they were prepared. An hour later I got a call to come pick them up. The seas were just too rough with the rain storm, and the captain brought the group back to shore. They didn't seem disappointed, and had a great one hour rough-seas boat ride. We ended up buying crab anyways. I love cracking those legs open and getting that fabulous crab meat out!! Yumma!!

We had dinner one night at the "Surfrider Resort". It was hard to get a picture with my camera that showed the view. It was incredible....right on the water. We were seated at one of the best tables in the place, for the view.

Darin, Logan, and I had the seafood buffet. We figure we must have eaten enough crab to have cost us $75 at the market. I stuck with the crab and chowder. (OK.... I had ONE coconut shrimp. I'm not THAT allergic, and I DID have my epipen with me!!) Darin had weird fish, and clams, oysters, shrimp, etc. Ellie had nachos. Silly girl.

Depoe Bay was our home base for the trip. We LOVED it!!
