Last night Darin and I went with a bunch of the Jones family to the Glenn Miller Big Band Show at Utah State. (Go Aggies!!) Dallon and Heidi initiated the whole outing, and encouraged us to dress up and dress the part. Finally, the night before, Darin and I had a little bit of time and found a few things to help us "Get in the Miller Mood". For those of you who have no idea what this event is, or who Glenn Miller is....."This delightful big band evening takes you back to the 1940s, when Glenn Miller and other big bands made a significant contribution to the morale of the country through music. The nation was in the midst of WWII, patriotism soared, and USO Shows brought much-needed relaxation and entertainment to our troops overseas. Set in the South Pacific at the largest overseas airbase in the world, you, the audience, are the troops fresh from the battlefront, on leave to enjoy a taste of home via the USO Show. You’ll tap your toes and maybe wipe a tear or two as you enjoy the show-stopping, heartwarming entertainment of the Stardust Singers, Dancers and the Larry Smith Orchestra! Delightful entertainment packed with music that puts you.....“In The Miller Mood- USO Style!"

We ate a scrumptious meal first, banquet style. Then watched the show for over an hour, which was completely entertaining and FUN to watch. Then it was time for photos, fun drinks, mingling about, tappin' toes and for some in our group, hittin' the dance floor. We did have our pictures taken at a photo op booth....flag in the background, and all of us in a military jeep prop. But those pics will be sent to us in the mail...I'll post them later.

It's a little hard to tell form these pics, but I did my hair 1940's style. I watched an online tutorial at 1:00 A.M. the night before, on what hair was like in the 40's. And Darin....much to everyone's surprise....got all decked out 40's style with the white jacket and stylin' black fedora hat. We decided it was really fun to dress up and that we need to go to more big events like this.

We did at least try out the dance floor. But 40's music and dance is complicated! We think we'll take dance lessons before we go to this event again. I did dance with Devin for a few minutes and he knew what he was doing a little more than Darin did. (We needed Sam....the best dancer in the family!!)

Darla was flying solo last night. But man alive, she had a great time! She even had the woman who runs the show and one of the main cast members asking her about her dancing......I think she could have a job with the show if she wanted to!!

It was touching to see the older vets in the audience stand and sing along when their branch of the military was honored.
Darin and I listened to Glenn Miller and 40's big band music all day to get in the "Miller Mood". It was fun! I think I'll listen to it more often now! Thanks everyone for the great time!
For those who are not sure who Glenn Miller is or what music I am referring to, here's a link to his band, to get your toes tappin'.
