Yesterday we wanted to do something memorable to end our Christmas vacation. So we bundled up to face the cold, and headed towards Midway. First stop, Mountain Dell golf course in Parley's canyon for some sledding. There was an icy wind blowing, but those little details never seem to deter the kids fro having fun.
Ellie found a treasure in the snow at the end of one of her runs...these stylin' sunglasses.

After sledding, we loaded up to keep heading towards Midway. Darin mentioned how many miles was on the odometer, and realized we were way over due for filling up on gas. Oops. Not sixty seconds after he mentioned that little detail....the car started to sputter and sure enough we were plum out of gas!! Our gas gauge doesn't work....so we have to rely on mileage to know when to fill up. We were just one mile shy of the Parley's Summit....and then we could have coasted to a gas station...but we couldn't make it that one last mile! So we called a tow company to bring us some gasoline. Only...the amount they brought to put in the tank wasn't enough to reach the fuel pump, while the car was at this downhill angle. So, we ended up getting towed after all. One mile to the gas station at the summit exit! The driver said we were not technically supposed to ride in our own vehicle. But we did anyways. It was an adventure to get pulled up on to the truck, and then ride way up there. The kids loved it! One hour lost and we were back on our way!!

Next stop, the Midway Ice Castle. It's a man made ice castle / maze that is AMAZING!! We waited in line for tickets and then wandered through the ice for awhile. The kids loved it. I loved taking pictures of it! Darin thought it was fine....and over priced. Granted, it would have been nice to get our hands on discount tickets, and Saturday evening is probably not the best time to go, as far as crowds. But....it was still awesome!!

We wanted to get there early enough to see the ice in full sunlight, and then go back after dark to see this ice all lit up with different colors. But with the whole 'running-out-of-gas' incident, we lost a little time. So we ended up being there just as/after the sun went down, and got a little bit of both effects.

And our final outdoor event for the day.....ice-skating at the Midway outdoor ice rink, which happens to be right next to the Ice Castle! It was cold, and FUN!! Darin didn't last long, as his skates didn't fit. So he went on a hot chocolate and hot donuts run, and we took a break in the charming gazebo.

The kids and I had a great time skating together. I'm a little hesitant when we are sledding together, and let Darin have most of the fun with the kids on the sledding hill. But when it comes to skating, I'm a lot more comfortable being the parent on the front line of FUN!
It never got above freezing in Midway yesterday. No wonder our cheeks got all hot once we were inside a warm car and started to thaw! We had a quick dinner on the way home at Chick-fil-A. Great last hoorah day of our holiday vacation!!
