Our Anniversary Trip !!! Part 5 - Seals and Fish!!

This was our favorite beach!! It was windy and for the most part deserted. Grassy hills lead to rocky beaches and little streams running to the ocean. Here is lighthouse number 3 for us, St. George Lighthouse, five miles out to sea. See it out there? It is only accessible by helicopter. We read about it--it is a dangerous post for a light-keeper.

No giant fish in the big rivers for us, but plenty of little fish right here on the beach!! On our way down to this secluded beach, protected from the gusts of wind, we happened to run into a master fisherman!! He teaches fishing classes at the local college!! He was the only other person around. He was done fishing and was on his way out, but he stopped to talk and got Darin all set up to be successful at this beach fishing!! And sure enough--it worked!! Darin was catching these little guys right and left. It was pretty fun!!

There were three seals and a sea-otter who were very interested in Darin's fishing. They stayed close by the entire time we were there. In this picture you can see two of the seals on that next wave, just watching Darin. They were so cute and playful to watch!!

These pics are a little blurry--I couldn't zoom in enough. Look closely at the top left hand picture. There are literally hundreds of seals covering that big rock. We had stopped here the day before in a huge storm. We didn't see any seals, but we could hear them barking through the rain. So the next day we came back, and sure enough--tons of them!! The other two pics are close-ups of a seal and the one sea-otter that hung around while we fished.

We'll definitely be back to this very beach one day!!!

I can't believe the seals came so close. Very cool! Jeremy would be so jealous of the fishing!
