Today we spent five hours at This Is The Place Monument Park. Such a very cool place to visit. Go there!! A huge thank you to Lisa B. for arranging the discount tickets for us all. There must have been fifteen or more gals from our neighborhood/ward in the group. It was super fun to see them on and off throughout the day as our paths crossed. We stuck with Naomi for a big part of the time, and cousins Bailee, Aleena, and MariAna.
There were two train rides to enjoy. One that took us around the entire park, and one smaller one that goes around the Millpond. I love the pic below of the kids riding the train on the other side of the pond. It was a beautiful day. You can see the corner of the mountain way out where we live. The last time I saw this Millpond, it was much more rustic--no work had been done in the area to make it an attraction yet. That was in 1997 when the reenactment wagon train pulled in to Salt Lake. My sister was on the wagon train, and a wagon train friend was baptized that day in this pond.
There is SO much to do here. The kids tried their hand at pioneer chores, pioneer school, and pioneer games.
There were farm animals to pet, and horses to ride. We stopped for some lunch, and cold treats at The Huntsman Hotel.
The kids loved this huge ship playground. They also made arrowhead necklaces and horseshoe necklaces. And you can see in the pics that they got to choose suckers from the Mercantile store. Mostly because their mom IS a sucker!!!
They panned for gold, which was super fun and refreshing since they could walk right in the water. The kids all found little pieces of gold and turned them in to the mountain men for a treat.
It was a weird, but perfect day as far as weather goes. There were times the sun was out that were pretty darn hot. But much of the time the sun was behind clouds and there was a nice breeze, and we even had a few short showers to cool us off, but hardly leave us wet. And then...there was THIS!!! A serious hailstorm!! You can see how hard it is pounding the pavement in the picture. It was hail and coming down hard. It was really fun to watch, especially since we were inside a building. And in a few short minutes, it was over.....and it smelled SO GOOD!!! I love the smell of rain.
Perfect day!! I will definitely be taking my kids back to This Is The Place!!!

It was such a fun day. I thought maybe you didn't stay long - we NEVER saw you! The kids loved it and I'm sure we will return again. It was a great way to spend the day - and the day spent since we didn't get home until 5:30.
I haven't been there in ages. Definitely next trip out!
we had such a fun day that day! I can't believe we stayed as long as we did. I am ready to go back before school starts up again. The kids had a blast!! loved the rain storm too made me thankful I live in TODAY and not as a pioneer at least I knew I could go home and get warm clothes on and take a hot shower to get the mud off.
