This summer Logan and Ellie are going to Book Club every Monday morning, with 19 other kids. We were invited to participate and jumped at the opportunity, especially since the club is focusing on chapter books. Today was our turn to host. We chose the book, "Stelladaur: Finding Tir Na Nog", because my sister is the author!! Very awesome! Here's the book and postcards with info on the back, that all the kids got to take home with them.
We watched the trailer online, and did some fun math magic problems. Then the kids read descriptions of some of the colorful characters in the book, and drew their own renditions of the characters.
There is a place in the story where people sketch their dreams on a sidewalk, and sometimes those things come right out of the sidewalk, and sometimes the one sketching dives right into the scene. The kids sketched their own dreams, or greatest desires...we had kids sketching pets, money, cars, super-heros, baby sisters, and more.
In the book, the main character is Reilly, and his parents own a bakery. So we set up the bakery and had muffins and pastries for snack.
It turned out great hosting book club today! Such a great group of kids. Thanks Lisa B. for getting it all up and running and inviting us to participate. Happy Summer reading everyone!
